Classroom Podcasts...Late assignment.

posted Tuesday, 10 June 2008
The first podcast I listened to was the 1st graders from Willowdale Elementary,  I must say i was shocked.  After creating my own podcast, and knowing what goes into doing it, to listen to this professional, well articulated, and informative podcast about ants from 1st grade students was awesome.  This was an obvious learning experience for them, the content was rich and well stated.  One question that I had was did the students learn about their own topic or was the research done as a group, so all the students learned the same information?  The sound effects really added to this podcast, I felt as if I was listening to child news reporters telling me about ants.  The format was perfect.  It really allowed for each student to showcase their topic of research, which is very important for them and for their parents.  This way they get to have the same involvement as everyone else. The other podcast that I loved was Mrs. S's vocab song! LOL, I found it to be hilarious, but really pertinent at the same time.  There is something to be said about a teacher that can turn something as monotonous and boring as vocab into a fun and entertaining task.  If i were Mrs. S I would teach the song to my students, and have them sing and dance to the music every time we were going to do vocab, kind of a little treat.   The other podcasts (city, and education) were also really cool.  I loved the map that went with the Our City podcasts.  Very cool how it was interactive and linked you to the podcast for that city.  Once again, these podcasts were informative, professional, and well done.  I have the same question as above for these.  The education podcast, although a little drier in content, can also be extremely helpful for teachers.  I found a podcast that dealt with teaching math on the SMART board, which was perfect for me because as most of you know that is what I do.  The amount of information that is accessible through these podcast is unfathomable, I'm very glad that I now have the understanding how to access that information.

Peter,

Your comments are straight to the point. I mentioned main of the same thing in my blog. I also thought Ms. Saunders podcast was fun but inspiring. I would definitely record a Vocabulary song myself, and add the words to the beat and the music. I know that it will help some of the learners in the classroom that are audio learners. I am waiting for the video. I will be the first to purchase it. HA! HA!

  • The first grade class did and supreme job in presenting the ideas and communicating what they learned to the world.
